Examination of Clinical Psychology
The purpose of this write up is to examine clinical psychological science in several ways. The memoir and evolving nature of clinical psychology will be discussed. look and statistics play a vital role in clinical psychology which will be explained. Differences between clinical psychology and other psychological health professions, such as social work, psychiatry, and school psychology will also be discussed.

Although psychology was founded in 1892, clinical psychology was not recognised as a supernumeraryty until 1896, when Lightner Witmer opened the first clinic of psychology at the University of Pennsylvania. Witmer was the first psychologist to help a patient with a particular problem, thus founding clinical psychology. Alfred Binet and Theodore Simon developed the Binet - Simon master in 1908 for use in schools to determine if children needed special help in the classroom. Lewis Terman revised the Binet-Simon scale in 1916 and renamed it the Stanford- Binet scale. Clifford Beers, a former patient, founded what would become known as the National link for Mental Health to improve the treatment of people with mental illness.



Sigmund Freud influenced clinical psychology by renewing the idea that sensible and emotional illnesses can be connected. In 1909, Freud made his falter to the United States, which inspired acceptance of his psychoanalytic theory. Also in attendance at this conference were Carl Jung, Otto Rank, Sandor Ferenczi, James Cattell, E. B. Titchner, and William James, all crucial in clinical psychology. In 1917, clinical psychologists left the American Psychiatric Association (APA) to form the American Association of Clinical Psychologists (AACP). Two years late, the AACP rejoined the APA as a clinical dent (Plante, 2011).
