(1999), for many of us the hap of death is distressing, and robs us of lifes benefits. This is a comparative paper analyzing two literary works that share a common theme (Death and Impermanence). Each of the literary works calculate the cycle of life from birth to death, and human behavior. The use of symbolism, literary devices, imagery, metaphors, and other essential tools assist the reader in following the authors on their journey.
The first author is Jean Rhys. Jena Rhys was born in the West Indies to a Creole mother and a rip off father. She was given the birth name Gwendolyn Rees Williams, completed some of her facts of life in England, got married and lived in Europe. Rhys was not accepted by her culture while growing up and became aware of the mistreatment of lost women, which often reflected in her writings, (as cited by Clugston, 2010).
In the Short story, use to Live Here Once, Rhys use symbolism (an object, person, or motion that conveys two meanings: its own literal meaning and something it stands for), to discern the journey (as cited by Clugston, 2010). The Theme (associated with something abstract; or the supposition that lies behind the story), as cited by Clugston, 2010) is Death. The story is about a woman who crosses a river and travels down a familiar path, to dress down her childhood home and for the first time realizing that she is dead. The story is cosmos told from Third- person limited omniscient point of view (when the thoughts and feelings of only one of the characters are related through the narrator), (as cited by Clugston, 2010).
